DIG South Kashmir Reviews Tourist Security in Kulgam, Emphasises Robust Safety Grid Ahead of R-Day
Kulgam, Jan 15 ( KASHMIR CRUX ): In a significant move to reinforce security at key tourist destinations, Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, Javed Iqbal Matoo, IPS, on Thursday chaired a high-level joint security review meeting at Aharbal, focusing on the safety of tourist places in district Kulgam amid prevailing weather conditions and ahead of Republic Day-2026.
In a statement issued here to news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, In order to review the Security of Tourist Spots, Joint security review meeting of tourist places falling in the jurisdiction of district Kulgam was held at Aharbal Kulgam. The meeting was chaired by DIG SKR Shri Javed Iqbal Matoo-IPS.
The meeting was attended by DIG CRPF SKoR Shri Kuldeep Singh Deswal, Brigadier 12 sector SSP Kulgam Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary-IPS, CO 2 Sector, CO 20 RR, CO 18 BN CRPF, ASP Kulgam and other senior officers from Police, Army, Intelligence Agencies, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), it reads.
During the meeting, a threadbare discussion was held on the prevailing security scenario, with special emphasis on the safety and security of tourist destinations including Aharbal Waterfall, particularly in view of inclement weather conditions, it reads.
Measures aimed at confidence building among tourists and ensuring a safe and secure environment were deliberated in detail. Moreover, officers were directed to remain vigilant and work with close coordination, it reads.
The meeting also reviewed the security arrangements ahead of Republic Day–2026, with directions issued to further strengthen the security grid, enhance inter-agency coordination, and ensure effective deployment of forces. The chair stressed upon maintaining high alertness, proactive intelligence sharing, and coordinated responses to any emerging challenges to safeguard peace and public order, it reads.
General public is requested to cooperate with the security forces in the interest of their own safety and share any information promptly regarding Anti-National Elements (ANEs) or suspicious activities that may disturb peace and tranquillity. (KNC)
